Monarch hailed from the old school of Virtual Adepts, recruited into the fold decades before the wave of PCs hit the Sleeper market. You'd never know it from her looks, but then again, she was reputed to be a Master of Entropy. Such exacting control over entropic processes could be to blame. Seldom armed with more than a scientific calculator and her keen powers of observation, she could make educated guesses based on next to nothing. When better prepared, her mage "sims" made predictions with rather impressive precision. She was never a front-line Ascension warrior, but was easily a master tactician. It was Monarch who "discovered" the icy rock where the Sojourn station was founded. Aided by VA trinary supercomputers, her analysis of gravitational perturbations at the very edge of the solar system proved quite accurate, and so she earned a place on the station. Perhaps in a safe, quiet place in the outer darkness, her advanced simulations would unlock the key to winning the Ascension War... This was not meant to be, however. Changes in the nature of the spirit world and the secret horrors of the Nephandi forced the occupants into cryogenic stasis, then to abandon the station when Morgan and Joshua came to rescue them. While Monarch's expertise in her field (Tradition) might have revitalized it, this too was not meant to be. Not long after their return to the Earth, an assault on the heart of Technocratic power in Seattle ended in a mushroom cloud, a neutron bomb or 'spirit nuke.' Monarch was on-site in the Technocrat base, trying to crack their network when the missile struck. Technomancer procedures against foreign magick foiled her attempts at escape. Her last signal to her Tradition allies asked them to pray for her soul. |
