The Cast of Characters

-- A bit of detail about some of the
"supporting cast" in Joshua and Morgan's history

Doctor Benjamin Carlisle

Doctor Benjamin Carlisle is the last living member of Joshua's old Cabal from Seattle. Each thought the other had died, the night the Sabbat took their revenge on the mages by burning down the loft they called home.

Years later, they found each other still alive and well, and their friendship was renewed. The Doctor's mastery of Etherite Science was essential in the wars they fought together, and they carved out a new home, taking magickal power and territory back from the clutches of the Technocracy.

The coming of the Avatar Storm changed all that, however. The Son of Ether was among the many master mages of the Traditions who were forced to flee to the Umbra when the storm began to ravage their Avatars.

Joshua and Dr. Carlisle have met up again since then, although Joshua doesn't speak much about the encounter...instead, he simply looks up to the stars as if feeling a Gangrel-like wanderlust.

An elder of the Ventrue Clan, Nadia Aleksandrovna Savrasova may be the -only- other Kindred besides Morgan whom Joshua trusts implicitly. Nadia and Joshua met through Morgan, as Nadia was, and is, a patron of sorts to her. Nadia knows of Joshua and Morgan's troubled past together, and some of the reasons why it was so rocky for them at first. Along the way, Joshua and Nadia came to an understanding, which has grown into something more as time has passed.

Joshua is perhaps as surprised as anyone that he and Nadia have become such good friends, but it's happened at the perfect time, it seems. No one in Necropolis really knows about the battles they have waged in places far from the rightly named city of the dead.

Nadia continues to help him and his mage allies covertly since the end of the formal Ascension War. The will-workers have been ignorant of Joshua's continued existence for some time now. After an assault by Order mages during the Wizards' March, it was better for them to believe that he had died.

But now, with the coterie leaving Necropolis behind, Joshua finds that it's time to renew his ties to the Traditions, and the Order be damned. The Gangrel coterie may find no one left among the Janissaries to pursue their years-old grudge with Joshua. The Magister and his undead allies could be a potent weapon for the Traditions, if they choose to accept it.

Demetrius le Marchant is a prominent figure from Joshua's past. The Magister Mundi knew Joshua's previous incarnation, and served as Joshua's mentor in this life.

After more than fifty years, Joshua decided to return to his Chantry where he was taught. He and Morgan have since been through hell, after finding Joshua's home of old in ruins. For a time they succeeded in beating back the static mages of the Technocracy, rescuing Demetrius from them and restoring his health and strength. The elder mage returned to his former Chantry to help rebuild it, and it seemed the long winter-stage of his life had been turned around.

The Magister would not rest on his laurels, though...and when the Traditions needed his help, Demetrius answered the call. The Ascension War has since been ended by force; many of the Traditions' most powerful members fled into the Umbra, but Demetrius, it seems, was a casualty of the War's end.

Joshua has already met his former mentor again, much to his regret. Demetrius' soul has reincarnated once already, only to fall prey to a corrupt nemesis of the Gangrel Clan. After seeing this young life cut short, Joshua reaches out with his magick, intent on finding Demetrius in his next life before someone else does.

As the Caretaker of Broken Souls, Joshua sees his fate in tending to the reincarnating Avatars of his former allies in the Order, even though the Order itself might seek to destroy him. First and foremost among these wandering souls is that of his pater, Demetrius...but as Joshua learns more about the nature of the Curse of Caine, he may learn to apply himself to the most important "broken soul" in his life.

Magister Arminius might be remembered by historians of the Order. Though he died many years ago, his legacy lives on to this day -- Joshua's Avatar is that of the long-dead Arminius.

A willworker who survived through tumultuous times, he saw the end of the last Mythic Age and the rise of Clan Tremere. Details of his personal history have not reached many books, however. Arminius became a Marauder sometime in the 14th century, and very few know much more about it than that. Even Joshua himself had no ties to his previous incarnation until fairly recently.

Now, through clouded memories and dreams, Joshua's past life has reached out to him to complete the ties of Fate that bind them both. Those few that know of Arminius might consider Joshua to be strongly influenced by his last life.

Joshua cannot ignore the Destiny that has caught up with him now. Joshua knows of his Avatar's past, and how it all ties in to his fate...including the reunion with his soul's twin.
